Do Not Seek Seats of Honor

From today’s reading…

…like wanting to take the place of honour at banquets and the front seats in the synagogues,…” Matthew 23:6

Between 2013-2017 you could hear all the cool kids saying, “Do it for the Vine.”

Vine was a short-form video hosting platform where users could upload 6-second videos, so when someone yelled, “Do it for the Vine!,” they were encouraging you to do something dramatic, something for show.

If Vine was around 2,000 years ago, Jesus might have said, “Don’t be like the scribes and Pharisees, who cruise around town in their nice rides, in their hip clothes, feeding the hungry so they could ‘Do it for the Vine.’ Don’t be like them.”

Be humble.

Work behind the scenes.

Do what’s right because it’s right.

Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the imprisoned, and do all of those kind acts without your smartphone “conveniently” recording or live-streaming what you’re doing, which is the only way to…

Stay the course.Keep the faith.Endure.

Market like you mean it. Now go sell something.
