Finish Strong
From today’s reading…
I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.”
Note that Paul did not say he won the race…or did he?
What is “winning?”
Last night in Jiu-Jitsu I did not win a single sparring session.
That’s 4-6 sessions within at least four 6-minute rounds.
But they tell us that there is no failure in Jiu-Jitsu.
You either win or you learn.
All of my partners said I competed well. (Maybe they were being nice.)
But I did not cheat. I played by the rules. I kept the faith.
And because I got back up every time I got knocked down I finished the race, so I won.
What we learn from YouTube videos and even during drills have almost zero impact in actual competition.
While we must practice, drill, and rehearse nothing replaces stepping into the arena to stand and be counted.
Because when the heat is on “We don’t rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training.”
In Jiu-Jitsu we train by competing.
The same is true in business.
You can read a great sales and marketing book (might I be so bold as to recommend mine?) or join a great sales and marketing course (I have one of those, too) but until you pick up the phone, knock on the door, step out from behind the counter and engage your prospect you’re just kidding yourself.
Have the courage and the passion and the commitment to compete well.
