Lassitude looms large while enthrallment languishes in listlessness

In 1992 “The Boss,” Bruce Springsteen wrote the song “57 Channels and Nothing On.”

If we were bored and satiated then, no wonder enthrallment is gone now with SiriusXM, Pandora, fiber optics coming right into our homes, DVRs, VOD, PPV, NFL Red Zone, Wii, XBox, all-you-can-eat 24×7 buffets, 24×7 fitness centers, etc.

We want for nothing in this country. Which is why we are worn out, weary, bored and discontent from satiety.

Our eyeballs are stuffed. Our ears are stuffed. Our bellies are stuffed. Our heads are so stuffed our brains are falling out to make room for more stuff.

If you are a manufacturer or designer of widgets that can be a good thing. People are always looking for and (usually) willing (and able?) to buy that new thing.

But you are also under a lot of pressure to keep making and designing new things.

I have five daughters who have picked up the passion for baking from my wife, their mother, and they love the show “Cake Boss.”

I was watching it with them a while ago and the main character, Buddy Valastro, pointed to a commercial mixer in his kitchen and said “We’ve used this daily since 1929.”

Where are your energies focused today? On making a quick buck so you can buy a nice watch and share a meme of it on Instagram or on determining what you can offer to the world that will still be in use 85-100 years from now?

Focusing on the latter is the real opportunity you and I have today.

Lick listlessness by launching a legacy. Changes and transformations that are useful are always welcomed and well-received.

Focus on that type of change and tell me how your business is next year.

Good Selling,

*Lassitude means exhaustion or fatigue. To enthrall means to captivate or charm. When your prospects are listless they are indifferent or spiritless.
