Live in Light

From today’s reading…

But if we live in light, as he is in light, we have a share in another’s life, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7

Daily we see examples of people, young and old, flocking to a concert or to a gate or barrier just to get a glimpse of a celebrity.

They’re giddy and breathless if that celebrity shakes their hand, takes a selfie with them, or gives them an autograph.

We see this and think nothing of it.

It has become expected.

Natural.

Understandable.

After all, that’s a huge celebrity with a million followers on Instagram.

Doesn’t everyone want to be in their presence?

“What’s that? We should flock to church like that? We should be giddy and humbled and overjoyed to spend time with Jesus? Ahhh…what are you: some sort of Jesus freak? Besides, Jesus is in my heart, and He knows my heart. Besides, besides: I’m spiritual, not religious.”

Why are we so willing to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars and hours upon hours each day to get close to celebrities in a feeble attempt to share in their lives, but we won’t do the same for our Savior?
