Look To Your Wise and Prudent Shepherds

From today’s reading…

I will appoint over you shepherds after my own heart,

who will shepherd you wisely and prudently.” Jeremiah 3:15

When released to our own recognizance, we tend to allow entropy to take over until chaos and disorder reign supreme.

Self-discipline is so rare we elevate those who demonstrate it to god-like stardom. And maybe rightly so.

Don’t believe me?

Do you know these names: Confucius, Marcus Aurelius, Buddha? What about 20th-century sports heroes such as Lou Gehrig for playing in 2,130 straight games and Cal Ripken, Jr for beating that record by playing in 2,632 straight games?

Then there are modern-day role models like retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink who has made a name for himself for waking up every day at 4:30 AM every day to exercise and start his day.

None of these men walked on water, healed the sick, or was raised from the dead, yet they are studied, quoted, and emulated by millions—billions—for thousands of years.

Why?

Because we are social creatures who need to be pushed, inspired, and even disciplined. When two or more are gathered we know that a leader emerges. It’s how we’re made.

Take comfort that God knows this about us—because He made us that way—and He will provide good people in our lives to help us…

Stay the course.Keep the faith.Endure.

Now go sell something.
