National Junk Food Day

Today, July 21, is National Junk Food Day.

Tomorrow is National Hammock Day and Saturday is National Gogeous Grandma Day.

Every day of the year has something to celebrate according to Days of the Year, https://www.daysoftheyear.com.

The great thing about sales and marketing is that even if you don’t like the “official” day you can celebrate things that matter to you and wrap a story around it and use that story to attract new prospects to your website and/or place of business and/or have a sale.

ProTip: you can have a sale at any time AS LONG AS you have a reason for the sale.

For example, I have seven kids with four of them born in April, plus my own April birthday. So the entire month of April I could have a “Help me pay for all of these birthday cakes” sales event.

I could also celebrate in April, October, and November for my other kids, my wife in June, my dad and sister in January and my mom in March.

Maybe you have a favorite aunt, a cousin who’s like a sibling to you, or a best friend whose life you like to celebrate…have a promotion.

The reason you do this is to both generate buzz and sales without conditioning your market to call and haggle any time they see fit.

If I have a 20% off sale in April to pay for all of those birthdays and a prospect calls in May and says they want the 20% off price I can say the sale is over because the birthday cakes have been eaten…but here’s a 10% off promo code to be nice (and to help me pay the credit card bill from April!)

While it’s (almost) too late to run a promotion for National Junk Food Day, if we look ahead to August we can see that the entire month is National Peach Month as well as Romance Awareness Month

Let’s say you’re an auto mechanic and you want to boost sales in August using the Romance Awareness Month because, let’s face it, what’s more romantic than burning motor oil and transmission fluid, right?

ProTip: look up the old Michelin commercials with the baby floating in the tire and their motto was “Because so much is riding on your tires.”

Back to the romance in your auto shop…

The human heart has four valves in much the same way a car has 4, 6, or 8 cylinders. So why not partner with your favorite restaurant in town and run an ad for the first week of August that says

“August is National Romance Awareness Month, and what is the symbol of romance?Hearts.

“The heart of your car is your engine and we here at Old Town Tire & Auto want you to be surrounded by strong hearts, which is why we have partnered with Vince’s Spaghetti.

“With every tune-up, alignment, or tire purchase in August, bring your receipt to Vince’s and receive your choice of a free dessert or 10% off your entire bill.

“We all know that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and the nicest thing you can make for your wife…is reservations.

“So click here or call 888.509.9837 to make your own reservation to strengthen the heart of your car and the heart of someone you love.”

Now look, I just made this up at 6:15 am with only half a cup of coffee in my belly.

And before you get all high and mighty and say “But Wes, I’m in B2B or B2G…my business is different,” I’d say to scroll through the crazy days and put your thinking cap on.

If you are a human and you sell to humans then your business is not different.

Since 2008 I’ve helped over 2,355 entrepreneurs implement inbound selling tools and techniques. I’ve yet to see one this can’t help.
