Obedience. Fear. Trembling. Sacrifice.
From today’s reading…
So, my dear friends, you have always been obedient; your obedience must not be limited to times when I am present. Now that I am absent it must be more in evidence, so work out your salvation in fear and trembling.”
As we near the end of the fourth quarter and the year there are plenty of salespeople strutting around saying “Oh yeah. That big deal is coming in. I just know it. I feel it in my bones. I’m beating my quota. I’m making it to President’s Club. The watch and trip are mine. I’m just going to coast from here on out.”
Many—maybe even most—of those salespeople will be sad when that big deal turns into a small deal or no deal at all and they run out of time to make it up because they took their sales salvation for granted.
Many—maybe even most—of those salespeople will be even sadder when they find themselves starting the new year without a job.
My biggest fear in sales has always been that I’ll do worse today than I did yesterday. I treat my salvation the same way. Every day you must prove yourself worthy. Paul reminded the Philippians that he was willing to have his blood “poured as a libation over your sacrifice and the offering of your faith.”
Likewise, you need to be like Paul and the Philippians as you get to work in fear and trembling, sacrificing all if needed because it’s the only way to…
Stay the course.Keep the faith.Endure.
Now go sell something.
