She Looked Inside

From today’s reading…

But Mary was standing outside near the tomb, weeping. Then, as she wept, she stooped to look inside, and saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head, the other at the feet.” John 20:11-12

Mary of Magdala remains at the tomb after Peter and the other disciple understand what is going on and go back to the others.

Why?

Why is she there in tears when the men are given insight and set off to spread the word?

As we look at the entire chapter of John, we see the other disciple was hesitant to enter the tomb as well.

He waited for Peter and followed him into the tomb.

Peter had his three moments of weakness early on Good Friday, but otherwise was always on fire for Jesus.

He jumped into the water to swim to Jesus. (John 21:7)

He walked on water (for a bit) to Jesus. (Matthew 14:29)

And he barrels right into the tomb to search for him.

When Peter, the other disciple, and finally Mary of Magdala face their greatest fears, they are rewarded with insight, wisdom, and courage.

They are inspired and motivated.

They are moved to share the Good News with everyone, which is the only way to…

Stay the course.Keep the faith.Endure.
