The Cares of Life Don’t Care About You
From today’s reading…
Watch yourselves, or your hearts will be coarsened by debauchery and drunkenness and the cares of life, and that day will come upon you unexpectedly,…” Luke 21:34
Pay attention to how The Joneses define “success.” It’s now how Jesus would define it.
There’s an old saying that it doesn’t matter what the truth is if I can get you to ask the wrong questions.
6-pack abs and 6-packs of craft IPAs and exotic vacations and climbing the corporate ladder and having the biggest TV on the block should not be your only goals in life.
At this predictable point in our society—which will take another five years to discernibly shift—it’s easy for power-hungry politicians, social media dictators, celebrity nincompoops, and news reporters (i.e. SJW activists) to work us up into a lather because the simplest thing in business, politics, sports, and life is to pick sides and pit one against the other.
It’s easy to stoke the coals. It’s easy to manipulate us to think it’s natural, right, and even patriotic to hate those who don’t vote, eat, drink, worship, or cheer like us.
It’s easy to make us feel inadequate for not getting our 7-year-olds the newest iPhone, our 10-year-olds the latest gaming console, or ourselves a personal trainer, big nights out on the town every weekend—which starts on Tuesday—and exotic cars because…”we’re worth it” and “carpe diem” and “YOLO!”
Watch yourself. Guard your heart. Focus on Jesus, which is the only way to…
Stay the course.Keep the faith.Endure.
Now go sell something.
