The Earth, Though It Be In Turmoil

From today’s reading…

…so we shall not be afraid though the earth be in turmoil, though mountains tumble into the depths of the sea, and its waters roar and seethe, and the mountains totter as it heaves. (Yahweh Sabaoth is with us, our citadel, the God of Jacob.) Psalm 46:2-3

What constituted “the earth” 4,000 years ago?

If the author was well-traveled, he might have journeyed from Israel to Egypt.

Maybe he spent some time traversing the Arabian Peninsula.

It’s possible he sailed across the Mediterranean and conducted commerce with merchants who had been as far as China.

Today, by design, our entire earth is in turmoil.

As if terrorism, cartels, gang wars, African genocide, Chinese labor camps, our military-industrial complex with its endless 21-year wars and 800+ global military installations, Russian imperialism, and the threats of nuclear attacks from North Korea and Iran aren’t enough, our godless, power-hungry authoritarians in political offices around the world intentionally threw the world into recession with total disregard for how it would impact children, the elderly, those suffering from mental illness or addicted to drugs or alcohol or in abusive relationships.

Vital medical treatments have been delayed.

Suicides have soared.

Poverty rates have exploded.

Neighbors are reporting neighbors for simply trying to live their lives and provide for their families.

Road rage has become mask rage as moms attack one another in stores.

And it’s happening around the world.

So the earth is in turmoil.

But this is nothing new.

It was predicted.

It was expected.

Things will probably get worse before they get better.

Fine.

You’re on the side of Good.

All you must do is…

Stay the course.Keep the faith.Endure.

Now go sell something.
