The Youngest of 70 Thwarts The Killing King
From today’s reading…
Then all the trees said to the buckthorn, ‘Come; you reign over us!’
But the buckthorn replied to the trees,
‘If you wish to anoint me king over you in good faith,
come and take refuge in my shadow.
Otherwise, let fire come from the buckthorn
and devour the cedars of Lebanon.'”
Abimelech had just been chosen king because he was a…jerk. (I’ll keep this PG.)
Jotham, the youngest of Gideon’s 70 sons, was the only one to survive Abimelech’s murderous rise to power and spoke out against him and those who chose him as their leader.
At the conclusion of his parable he foretells what’s in store for everyone who took part in this affront to God and it ain’t pretty.
But Jotham had to go into hiding to allow God to work on His own timeframe.
So pick and choose your battles, but battle you must.
You may not have asked for the war between good and evil, but you and I have been placed smack dab in the middle of it.
Now you must choose to say “it’s not my job” or “who am I to speak up” or “what can one little person do that will make any difference” or you listen to the Word of God, accept His call, and clearly do His will as you rise up, speak up, and…
Stay the course.Keep the faith.Endure.
