Use Zapier to Format Dates For Infusionsoft
Zapier is an incredible tool, especially as an intermediary between Infusionsoft, Hubspot, and other applications. For this tutorial, I’m going to assume you have a basic working knowledge of Zapier and how to create Zaps. If you need a refresher, check out Zapier’s helpful article on Creating a Zap (https://zapier.com/help/zap-creation/).
For this example, I’m also going to use two great apps that Zapier provides. The first is Email Parser by Zapier, a free app that gives you an email address (which you should keep secret, unless you want people to send it email) and allows you to create templates, so information can be extrated from incoming messages. Simply click the Signup button at https://parser.zapier.com/ to get started with Email Parser. Zapier also provides helpful documentation for this app, which can be found here. (https://zapier.com/help/email-parser/)
In this example, I’ve created the following template, so that I can send messages into Zapier that contain a date:
When creating the template, I typed an example date (“July 2, 2017”) and then highlighted it, which prompts us to name the data we’re grabbing (“date”) and automatically replaces it with the bracketed token you see highlighted above.
Step 1. Create a new Zap.
The trigger app to select is Email Parser by Zapier and the trigger we want is “New Email.” Connect your Email Parser by Zapier account, select the Mailbox we want to monitor (this is the email address you see inside Email Parser) and click continue. Finally, send an example email that matches your defined template to the Email Parser email address so you can test the trigger and move on to the next step.
Step 2. Format incoming date.
Now that the example data is in Zapier, it can be accessed and transformed in the next step. Select Formatter by Zapier as the action app and then choose “Date / Time” as the action to use. Select “Format” in the drop-down labeled Transform. For Input, find the date that Email Parser extracted; in this example, it is called Parse Output Date. For sending dates into Infusionsoft, the format to use is “YYYY-MM-DD”
Finally, Since we’re just dealing with dates (and not times) here, you can safely ignore the To/From Timezone fields. You can also likely ignore the From Format field, as Zapier will successfully handle most common formats.
Step 3. Connect Infusionsoft and save data!
In the final step, connect one more action app: Infusionsoft. Choose “Create/Update Contact” as the action, connect/select the correct Infusionsoft app,
